Why my gas bill is so high?

I’m a renter and I live in an old apartment. My gas bill was usually at around $30 per month. During these two recent months, my gas bill was three times as high as before. I didn’t do anything unusual and I kept my smart thermometer at the same temperature. Why is it so high? What can I do to reduce it?

Some of the reasons that might affect your gas bill include fuel prices, changes in the weather, and outdated heating equipment. The colder it gets outside, the harder your heating system has to work to keep your home warm, resulting in increased gas consumption and higher costs. The older your equipment is, the less efficient technology becomes to generate the same amount of heat which means more energy and money spent on heating.

Here are a few ways that you can save on cost. Communicate with your landlord about renewing the heating equipment. Knowing that it might be hard to persuade your landlord, you can consider changing your living habits such as putting on extra layers of clothing and keeping the thermostat set at a lower temperature than usual, making use of the sun’s heat by opening windows, and keeping the vents and radiators in your house free of obstacles to aid with greater heat circulation.
